In 2005 Toyota imported the first vehicle hybrid Toyota in Ecuador, for market research purposes.
In 2007, the Ecuadorian Government, through the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Electricity, carried out comparative tests among the Toyota Prius and a vehicle of similar characteristics, with the desire to protect the environment, by means of a reduction int the consumption of fuel and of emissions of C02.
The results of this study were positive and the benefits that the hybrid technology offered in favor of the environment.
Toyota Ecuador began its negotiation with Japan, so that Ecuador becomes the first country in South America to introduce this new technology.
The third generation Toyota Prius will arrive officially in the Ecuadorian market in June, 2009 while the Toyota hybrid Highlander will follow in the following months.
